My interest in working with families is lifelong and comes from a deep curiosity in people, their relationships and their stories. I have worked with families for over twenty years, beginning in the HSE. My background, experience and training means that I take an open, practical and collaborative approach to therapy. I am comfortable taking risks with clients, where appropriate, using my skills to be challenging, while always seeing my clients as the experts in their own lives.
I have been in private practice as a Family Therapist since 2015.
I hold an M.Sc in Systemic Psychotherapy and have trained in emotion-focused therapy, EFT, and emotion-focused couples therapy, EFT-C (Greenberg and Goldman, 2008).
Systemic therapists work collaboratively, taking a non-directive position. They challenge and support clients to consider attitudes and beliefs about their lives that are no longer helpful. These can include beliefs on gender, race, age, class, culture, sexuality and others that have been brought from families and early lives.
I suggest bold, creative techniques, where appropriate. It’s my belief that it’s important to approach the work from a ‘holistic’ perspective. I guide clients to supportively manage their own stress response, allowing us the space to engage in deeper therapeutic work together. I support my clients to achieve new insight and bring about practical, experiential, lasting change.
Change is the goal. I will provide you with the tools that you need to identify negative patterns and problem issues. Together, we will find appropriate and helpful ways to bring about the meaningful and sustainable change that you seek.
In my experience, this approach brings change sooner than you might think. That’s what I find rewarding in this work. It’s why I strive to ensure that the work is useful and practical. If this work is going to be helpful to you, you’ll know it quickly.
